The cold air almost feels like a bucket of ice being dumped over his head. Jade gasps, winded, every bit of him shaking and over-sensitive as he tries to draw in enough air to steady his racing mind. He's barely aware of what's happening, only that instead of the endless water around him, he's back on solid land, and he feels heavier than ever without the water to buoy him up.
He needs to get away. He crawls on his hands and knees, making it a few steps away from the side of the pool. Then his strength gives out on him, and he simply collapses, curled up on his side.
